"Actually, asshole, since 9/11 my primary concern has been predicting terrorist attacks. You think you changed that day? Your world changed? Imagine if in hindsight you realized that you saw things leading up to it that came to you out of the blue, and just maybe someone could have been told. Maybe things could have been different, and that's only if they listened. Problem is, you people hate the shit out of each other, and half the time I can't tell if some of these so-called 'acts of terror' are just you all driving someone up the wall and slapping some ink on the situation."
The man on the other end of the line continued.
"I can't trust you, and I damn sure can't trust them because you say they're the ones we need to stop."
Eric heard the man inhale sharply, loud enough to spike red on the voice recorder.
"I've gone places and seen things that trained analysts should have included into their studies. So if you're calling me about a pair of missing fucking Gucci shoes, kindly 411 your local Dionne Warwick and when you're done with the call -- shove the phone right up your ass. Right. Up it."
The line went dead.
